Greetings from the Boise State Federation of Teachers

Posted on May 18, 2020May 18, 2020 by Martin Orr

Boise State University’s chapter of the American Federation of Teachers wishes you well during these difficult times.

Our ability to email the campus community was interrupted shortly before the end of the fall semester, which feels like an eternity ago. Programming we had planned this spring was canceled due to the campus closure. We are now somewhat back on our feet and able to reach out.

Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all been discussing the implications for the campus community. Recently announced furloughs and at-will contracts are of immediate concern. Providing for the safety of employees and our students are concerns not far behind.

Our AFT local is engaging the Faculty Senate, the Professional Staff Association, the Association of Classified Employees and our Administration in an effort to defend one another as we share the inevitable pain of a situation beyond all control. As a union, we will do our part to help one another serve our students and advance the mission of Boise State University. Our membership is at an all-time high, and we are energized like never before.

The labor movement has always been premised on the belief that we are all in this together. Never has that been more true.
